Quality Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:
Plans, coordinates and directs the Quality Monitoring and Improvement Program while providing continuous improvement leadership.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Lead, manage and develop the Continuous Improvement Systems and Procedures.
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of the Quality Assurance Standard Procedures that meet customer specifications and applicable objectives.
  • Manage implementation and use of PFMEA, SPC, 8-D, 5Why and other tools.
  • Works closely with customer, plant and corporate contacts to resolve issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage use and application of Root Cause/ Corrective Action (CA) systems for the evaluation of nonconformances including: investigation, evaluation, review, reporting, responding to customers and internal follow up activity. Will also assist in facilitation of Corrective Action Responses (CAR s) as necessary to assure timely root cause correction, verification of effectiveness and closure.
  • Review warranty and first pass yield metrics to drive year over year improvement.
  • Manages final inspection product realization through dimensional, surface, marking identification and specification requirement verification as well as provide Quality Assurance Engineering and Quality Systems support to both internal and supplier final inspection facilities as needed.
  • Monitor and track quality process and product control parameters as a means to validate process reliability and capability.
  • Lead Continuous Improvement Program for Engineering product quality & cost improvements. Additional responsibilities and duties may be assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
  • Prefer a Bachelor s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Quality, or other technical field and a minimum of
3-5 years of Quality Management, Manufacturing Supervision/Management experience in a Continuous Improvement Environment. Will consider those with an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong preference for candidates with Quality Certification (CQE/CQM) and membership with the American Society for Quality (ASQ).
  • Sound knowledge of Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing Processes (Six Sigma), Castings, Weldments, Assembly, CNC Machining, Precision Tool and Die, Metal Forming, Machined Components and Machining Processes.
  • Knowledge and experience with ISO-9001: 2008 standards, Gauge Calibration, Metrology, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to perform dimensional measurement interpretation of products to customer required specifications using measuring instruments such as surface plate, height gauge, comparator, calipers, gauges, micrometers or CMM.
  • Ability to set up and use a CMM for dimensional detail part inspection and interpret reports.
  • Ability to develop and perform semi-complex and complex dimensional detail part inspections.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints including engineering drawings, specifications, geometric dimensioning, and tolerances and using the information to determine specifications, inspection and testing procedures, adjustment and certification methods, formulas and measuring instruments required.
  • Must be extremely detailed, organized and goal/results oriented.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively and quickly both independently and with one or more groups.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to lead and manage Quality Lab Technicians.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications.

  • This position requires the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in the following environment:
  • Work schedule generally consists of 40-50 hours per week, which may include on-call status, evenings and/or weekends.
  • Required to sit or stand for long periods of time in either an office or shop environment.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
