Job Description
Position Summary The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations within a manufacturing environment. This individual will lead initiatives focused on maintaining a safe workplace, reducing environmental impact, and supporting continuous improvement across EHS programs. Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs, policies, and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance (OSHA, EPA, and state/local regulations).
Conduct safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
Lead training and education initiatives for employees on safety practices, environmental procedures, and regulatory updates.
Manage wastewater operations and compliance, including maintaining certifications and submitting regulatory reports as required.
Oversee Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and hazardous energy control programs.
Support environmental compliance efforts, including waste management, stormwater, air emissions, and recycling initiatives.
Investigate workplace incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to ensure safe work practices and continuous improvement of EHS performance.
Maintain accurate EHS documentation and records for inspections, audits, and regulatory reviews.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Certifications:
Wastewater Certification (required or ability to obtain)
OSHA 30-Hour Certification (required)
Additional relevant certifications (e.G., HAZWOPER, CPR/First Aid, ISO 14001, or related) preferred
Experience:
3+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment required.
Strong understanding of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, hazard communication, and machine safety.
Experience with environmental compliance, wastewater management, and safety program implementation.
Skills:
Excellent communication and training skills across all levels of the organization.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and EHS management systems.
