Job Type Full-time Description Summary/Objective The Design Engineer provides technical knowledge and documentation to others in and outside of engineering. This comes in the form of 2D drawings, 3D CAD models, Routings and BOM s, as well as engineering change notices (ECN). This role will have a strong understanding of manufacturing processes that can be translated into drawings. You will work closely with others in and outside of engineering, so good listening, communication skills and attention to detail are a must. The Design Engineer should be in a constant state of improvement, in themselves, in their designs and in the processes, they are involved with daily.
Essential Functions
Good communication skills to work with others, draw out necessary facts and communicate designs and design changes to others.
Create detailed drawings and inspection sheets of components and assemblies for manufacturing.
Work closely with manufacturing to create and modify routings and BOM s needed to manufacture parts to our current best practices.
Create new part numbers for Sales.
Develop detailed designs and drawings for customized customer orders.
Generate all necessary documentation to effectively implement ECN s.
Review, research and implement change requests (ECR s) that come from various sources.
Assist in the identification of parts and material types when needed for production.
Provide technical engineering assistance to customers as required.
Help troubleshoot and improve manufacturing processes.
Help evaluate incoming RFQ's for manufacturability, technical applicability, and exceptions.
Reverse engineer customer parts by taking measurements and generating sketches and drawings.
Work Environment and Physical Demands Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing/office environment. Must be able to operate a computer/keyboard, ability to use phone, and sit for extended periods of time. Communicate using speech, hearing, written, and vision skills. Will often be on the production floor requiring the use of safety equipment to include, but not limited to- safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel toed work boots or shoes.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work General business hours are 6: 30 am- 5: 00 pm. This position follows a specific work schedule of Monday through Friday, 7: 00 am- 4: 30 pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to meet business demands.
Requirements Required Education and Experience
Minimum of an associate degree in Mechanical Design or Engineering Technology. Or 10 years working in an engineering environment on the essential functions listed above.
Experience in CAD software, creating 3D models and assemblies as well as 2D mechanical drawings.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (i.E. Blueprints).
Preferred and Experience
Ability to plan, organize and implement multiple concurrent projects.
3+ years generating detailed mechanical engineering drawings.
3+ years w ECN s.
3+ years working with Solidworks in 3D and 2D.
Knowledge of inspection tools and techniques for measuring parts.
Experience with MRP/ERP software. Preference of INFOR XA PowerLink.
